Review: US Airways Club @ CLT / Charlotte

I had the opportunity to go down to Charlotte, NC on US Airways earlier this week. Even though my Amex Platinum Card doesn’t get me into American’s Admirals Clubs or US Airways Clubs any more, I was still able to get in thanks to a recent award redemption with American’s Business Extra program.

I flew JFK-CLT and had high hopes for the US Airways Club at CLT since it is one of their hub airports. I was not disappointed.

I checked into the Club at around 8:20am. It was pretty empty. I really only had time to grab a to-go coffee and slap on a tie. But I returned at around 3pm and got to hang out for a couple of hours and snap some photos. Both times, check-in was a breeze and the agents couldn’t have been more friendly.

The lounge

Didn’t get a pic of the entrance. But there’s only one Club in the airport, nestled between the C and D concourses. It’s pretty easy to find.

The lounge is HUGE. It has a fully stocked bar with snacks for purchase, two free snack/small plate areas, a coffee and tea station, a business center, and tons of ample seating. Pretty much everything you’d need or expect in a lounge. And because Charlotte is a hub, this one had tons of nice Colonial touches, views of the runways from floor-to-ceiling windows, and was larger than a Club would be at a non-hub airport.

Overall

Aside from the smallish bathrooms, this lounge was fantastic. US Airways did a great job with their hub location flagship lounge. I inevitably wonder about the future of it – becoming an Admirals Club, seeing the new paint jobs from the windows – but for now, US Airways is holding their own. A relaxing way to spend a couple of hours, and beat the pants off of waiting at the gate. I have a feeling I’ll be connecting in Charlotte more…
