Review: Aer Lingus Gold Circle Lounge @ BOS

By the time you read this, I will be in the air on Aer Lingus headed to Dublin (assuming you read this within the next 7 hours. Hmmm… that opening line doesn’t hold up well to posterity).

I booked the coveted BOS-DUB award with 50,000 British Airways Avios for a round-trip ticket. And now, I’m in Boston at the Aer Lingue Gold Circle Lounge.

A few notes

The Boston airport is super cute. I’m sure I’ve been here before, but my travels pre-Out and Out are such a jumbled blur in my mind that I can’t remember where, when, or how. It reminds me of AUS airport somehow, although with way more international flights. I spotted Icelandair, WOW!, Swiss, Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic, and British Airways in Terminal E. I… had no idea that there were so many routes out of here. Very cool.

The Aer Lingus lounge is super small. It’s really just one open room. They do a good job of squeezing in a lot of seating, and it doesn’t get seem like it gets too crowded. There are no bathrooms in here though, and definitely no showers. Very limited services and limited hours, too. Just 3:30pm-8:30pm. I’m thinking they’re only open for the BOS-DUB and BOS-SNN flights, then they close up shop.

The Boston airport is easily accessible to/from the city via the T Silver Line. It’s literally 20 minutes to downtown Boston. I didn’t know this before this trip. If you’re keen to take public transportation, I’d recommend looking into this option!

The lounge

So yeah, limited seating, but great, fast wifi, lots of outlets, and a nice selection of snacks and sandwiches.

I’ll step away here and let the pictures to the talking (typing?).

The lounge is located along a row of other lounges: the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, the British Airways Lounge, the Lufhansa lounges… I wonder if any of those have bathrooms or showers?

There is also an Air France lounge in a different part of the terminal, near Gate 4. This lounge is near Gate 8.

Bottom line

A cute, compact lounge with limited hours (just 5 per day). But, great snack options, plenty of booze, juices, water, and coffee to sip and munch on, fast wifi, and relatively close to the departure gates.

I wish the seating were divided into a main room with the TV and some seating, and another “quiet” or “business” room with the row of seats with outlets that’s a little quieter. Sound travels here and I can hear the blare of the TV in the background. I’m able to tune it out, but add in some jolly Irishmen having lots of beers and it gets a little harder to get much done. Would also love it if bathrooms were in-house instead of down and around a long hallway.

But as far as lounges go, the basics are covered: wifi, seating, outlets, and food/drinks. That’s really all I look for in a lounge, really. It’s well-designed and the colors are nice. It seems kept up really nicely and there are lots of modern touches from the light wood of the work counter and check-in desk to the granite tiles on the walls.

Don’t come here seeking peace, though. The one room makes it hard to get any amount of work done. If you have Priority Pass, I saw the Air France lounge was included with that in Terminal E. It may be a more viable option, and it’s even closer to the Aer Lingus departure gates.

I couldn’t get to it on this trip, but perhaps a reader can weigh in on the quality of that lounge?

If you want a place to chill and have some food and drink before your flight, this lounge is fine. If you want something quieter and more spacious, there may be better options available in Terminal E @ BOS.

Has anyone else been to the Aer Lingus Gold Circle Lounge @ BOS? Are there any Bostonians out there that can help us compare the other lounge options?

  1. From what you describe and your pictures, the Air France lounge isn’t much different. Although it is somewhat divided into two spaces. Food selection seems to be better in the Aer Lingus lounge.

  2. How exciting! My next “big” trip will be to Dublin next year (or sooner, if things work out!) so I can’t wait to see your post about this trip…

  3. The Aer Lingus lounge in Boston moves effective 2 May 2016 over to Terminal C when Aer Lingus moves its arrivals/departures over there. That will be the only international lounge in that Terminal (and I agree that the food was better in the old Aer Lingus lounge than in the Air France one, altho the latter was certainly larger) so not a lot of choice. However the new lounge, called “The Lounge”, is shared by Emirates so perhaps will be more up-market than even the old one. Your only other place to relax in Terminal C would be the Our Lady of the Airway Chapel !
